Train & Retain & Hanssen Construction
Story
Train & Retain and Hanssen Construction have teamed up for the MATES Big Lap 2024!
We are excited to announce that throughout May, we'll be taking on the physical and fundraising challenge of the MATES Big Lap. Our goal is to commit to and complete a specific amount of physical activity by tracking the kilometres we run/walk/cycle etc, all while raising awareness and funds for Mates in Construction. The distance covered by each participant will be added together to hopefully achieve one Big Lap of Australia!
We will be trying to clock up 3000km combined over the month of May as a team. There will be regular updates throughout the month to keep you all up to date on the Big Lap progress. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference and help MATES continue their crucial work. We firmly believe that supporting this cause is important not only for our community (both work and home), but also for our personal wellbeing. By pushing ourselves physically, we'll not only be improving my fitness and mental health but also demonstrating our dedication to the cause.
Both Train & Retain and Hanssen Construction are long term supporters of Mates in Construction. We are industry partners, the values of our companies are in alignment and and everybody in this team is either ASIST or Connector trained. We have and always will be proactive and consistent in using the tools/skills MATES have taught to promote awareness, support & train others and take direct action towards mental health wellbeing and suicide prevention for all our workers and mates in the building and construction industry.

MATES in Construction is a for the industry, by the industry, not for profit that exists to strengthen the construction, mining and energy industries by preventing suicide; because a life saved is one less family grieving, one less site devastated and one less community heartbroken.
MATES is an evidence-based program that reduces stigma and promotes mentally healthier workplaces through training and support. MATES Field Officers deliver training to sites and keep in contact if anyone is in need, while MATES Support is available 24/7 to workers and their families who may be doing it tough.
